Active School Flag
Our school was awarded the Active School Flag in June 2013.
The Active School Flag is a Department of Education initiative to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physically active and physically educated community.
The Active School Week was an integral part of the initiative, as well as being one of the highlights of the year.
Some of the many successful activities included: Skipathon, Aviva School Mile Challenge, Ultra Flex Dance Club, Cork City Sports, Bizzy Breaks, orienteering, Hapkid Taster session, basketball blitz, Scaith na Scol, sports day, Céilí Mór, folk dancing, gardening and visits from the GAA President and the Irish Olympic Boxing Team.
Through the initiative, schools are encouraged to find as many cross-curricular opportunities as possible to “energise” the school day, as well as organising fun and inclusive focus events for all members of the school community. Overall it was an extremely successful, fun and worthwhile initiative, enjoyed by all who participated.
